The first of a series of wings. This screen print is my interpretation of a sparrows wing. I have many birds in the garden, but the sparrows are ever present. They weave in and out of the hedge and are part of the fabric and texture of the garden. Last year I visited San Marco, the Dominican cells in Florence where I saw the annunciation by Fra Angelico. I am inspired by his mixture of intense natural observation and heightened colour which gives Gabriel such presence. I wanted to use this to celebrate my sparrows and pay them homage
